It Is All About Love - A Thomas Vinterberg Movie

Thomas Vinterberg's cinematic starting point for It's All About Love was to do exactly the opposite of what he did in Festen, and what the Dogme manifesto, which Vinterberg wrote together with Lars von Trier in 1995, required. "I had got a lot of energy from the courage that was connected to the Dogme project. I wanted to pursue that energy again. I felt inspired by the idea of ​​making a project that was daring. We have created a sweeping illusion, where everything is constructed and carefully planned. In Dogme, the camera would be hand-held, and the scenes would be shot on location, so this time I have shot to a very high degree on tripods and in sets and studios. Joaquin Phoenix and Claire Danes' flew through the streets of New York in the parking lot of Filmbyen, and in the images of the airplane, where Sean Penn is, neither the landscape nor anything else is real. Some of the noble bag Dogme was the renewal, and in that way my new film is completely in the spirit of Dogme. You can say that I have invented a new rule, which has forced me to renew," says Thomas Vinterberg.

Co-author Mogens Rukov believes that It's All About Love should be described as 'Anti-Dogme'. "This project is exactly the opposite of Festen. Thomas made the exact opposite decision of what he would have otherwise wanted to do." Producer Birgitte Hald agrees: "One of the wishes Thomas had for the film was that he would not be subject to any restrictions. It's All About Love uses all the possibilities of film art and could not have been a dogma film." Also for the photographer Anthony Dod Mantle, it was a new twist in his collaboration with Thomas Vinterberg. "The party was about saying no to everything. On It's All About Love, we said yes all the way, and it gives something extra to have the opportunity to work with the same director on two such different films. It means that our collaboration is allowed to develop and grow."

Thomas Vinterberg wrote the manuscript for It's All About Love together with his former teacher from the Film School, Mogens Rukov. The two also wrote the manuscript for Festen sammen. One of the primary sources of inspiration was the turbulent period after the Fest, where Vinterberg traveled the world to promote the film. "I observed this club of people in the air around the earth, and experienced that you can be in Budapest in the morning, have breakfast in London and go to bed in Venice. I experienced a world in motion, a world where individuals move criss-cross and do not belong to any particular place. It is a completely new pattern of life, which is also increasingly applicable in the everyday life of modern people. People are constantly moving. To meetings in the city, to their boyfriends, whom they do not bor sammen med, til hente og bringe børn. Holder meets over the phone and sends their love as text messages.
