When schoolteacher Justine Gandy arrives to teach her third-grade class in the small town of Maybrook, Pennsylvania, she is met with a nightmarish sight. Only one child has shown up—the remaining 18 students in the class have vanished without a trace.
The investigation quickly reveals a chilling common thread: at exactly 2:17 the previous night, the 17 children got up, left their homes, and disappeared into the darkness.
The town is paralyzed by shock, parents are distraught, and suspicion immediately falls upon Justine herself. Where are the children? Who could be behind such a precise and terrifying act? And why is it that one particular child is the only one to appear the next morning?
